He does smoke like a chimney and he’s always happy to talk if someone brings him a packet of 20... all the police officers smoke too but then again look at the period it’s set in... it was still acceptable to smoke in buildings and offices when the air was thick with smoke.
What is it with people complaining at minute , it’s not glamourising the smoking it’s how it was then, like you say there’s more content in it that could be complained about ... it’s a very good drama , like I said earlier I’m glad it’s on over 3 nights rather than a few weeks , you’ll be able to binge watch it in one hit ...enjoy

I can not stand David Tenant but think he is absolutely brilliant in this. Absolutely worth watching.

He must have been one sick individual.

Agree that it has been superb, looking forward to The Real Des tonight at 9.

Thought David Tenant was superb but so were Daniel Mays and Jason Watkins. Nilsen was definitely evil, sick, weird etc but, if some of his one liners in the show were actually his and not added for effect, he was also quite funny. Especially liked, when he was getting ready for court, the ‘i used to have 15 ties but the police took them for evidence” line.

Fantastic actors all of them. I was on the edge waiting for the sentencing even though we knew the outcome. My only negative was as a non smoker , I felt I’d have lung cancer after all the cigs 🙁. Did they really smoke that much up to early eighties, I must have been asleep

I thought the final instalment was great but the first two were pretty...boring? Given the subject matter! I suppose Des’ “normality” is what made the case so shocking. It just didn’t make for very good tv in my opinion!

I noticed the smoking but then remembered that in my first couple of jobs in early 90s people smoked in the actual office and then later in the staff room.

It’s totally appropriate to the period.

We thought the program was great, very creepy.

Just watching the Real Des, we’ve commented how much the actors look like the actual people involved, kudos to whoever did the casting x

I love good tv drama.
I’ve always felt Mayes is a seriously underrated actor. He’s fantastic and should be in more things

In the late 80s I shared an unventilated windowless office with another worker who smoked a lot. Yes it was the norm back then. I always remember a boss who wanted to split our staff room into smoking and non smoking areas😳. Never happened thankfully.
