I pay to book my seat if the seats I really want are available. If/when these seats are no longer available I don't pay I just take my chances as all the other seats are much of a muchness to me.

We pay as we want to be sat together as a family and sit as near to the exit so we can get off quickly as we have a 2 hour drive from be airport.
If you will get upset by turning up at the airport and they can't sit you together then you are best to book your seats. If you genuinely don't mind being sat together then you'll be fine. I will not move seats to accommodate a person who hasn't booked their seat and I'd imagine there are others like me now. It's your choice.

We pay. Dd19 has special needs and we have to all be together as she gets stressed.

Although it goes against the grain and I'd convinced myself it didn't matter where we sat have just forked out £150 and booked the bubble both ways.
Last time we waited until we got to the airport and were lucky they had 3 seats together. I think if the bubble was full I may have chanced it, but wanted to experience sitting there. DD 8 is soo excited!

I wouldn't pay. You can book seats for free up to 24 hours before, or 72 hours if you're a Flying Club member I think. Most people won't get allocated seats till they turn up at the airport so if you should be Ok.

We always pay on long haul, I know what you mean you shouldn't really have to but I just don't want to take the chance of being split up on a long haul flight. I know I'd be the one with the kid, then I'd never get any peace!

We always pay - but reluctantly I must say. It's just 1 less thing to stress about before you travel knowing you've got your seats sorted.

I'm flying VA for my honeymoon in May and we paid to book 2 seats at the back of the bubble - we got the same seats outgoing and coming home.
I'm glad I did, I looked today and all the seats except the single one next to us have also been booked going out. On the lower deck pretty much all of the front facing (with no seats infront) rows are booked as are all of the extra leg room seats, I think all the central and remaining will go when people can select for free! |

We have paid too even though it is just me and DH this time. I think they have a nerve considering how much the flights are but I hate not sitting together on a long haul flight. Before you paid and just requested seats with VA we were all split up as a family of four at the gate on to separate trips. Our kids were 8 and 10 and then 12 and 14. We couldn't actually see each other and it wasn't a pleasant experience.
