Sorry to hijack - would you recommend 1 or 2 nights at GC? I’ve currently got 2 nights currently pencilled in for our Easter trip, but wondering whether 1 will be ok.

That would have been to the much smaller West Rim then as they don't go to the South Rim from Las Vegas.

The South Rim is about 10 times the size of the West Rim and is what you see in the movies.

As for 1 or two nights, you can do it with one night. But in April with the shorter days 2 may be better. You will really need a good 6 hours to get around all of stops and do the centre, plus time for seeing dawn / dusk.

We've driven and stayed overnight at El Tover. Also taken trips with Papillon and Maverick - both very good

We drove it was great stopped stopped at hoover dam stayed tgrand canyon to watch sunset then drove back. We stopped on away there where I stayed in the car after mates went into a very small service style place I realised it felt like I was in a horror movie as there loads and loads of abandoned cars all around it.

We drove ourselves back in 2012, stayed at the South rim and it was fab. We only stayed one night but should have done at least 2.

Details are in my trip report (link via signature)

We did the bus tour to the South Rim. Was a long day but did the Hoover Dam, Route 66 and had a decent length of time at the Canyon. Driver was great and it was only the last couple of hours which seemed to drag.
We only had 4 days in Vegas so this was our best option, would maybe hire a car and drive if we were to do it again but the scenery en-route is pretty boring for most of the way.

We went via a private hummer tour. They took us off road through a Joshua tree forest, stopped for breakfast on way, stopped at Hoover dam. Got picked up at 6am and got back about 6pm totally exhausted but well worth it. We have also done a bus tour and flown there but would choose the hummer agaiIn.

We are looking to do the same next year. Probably do 2 nights so we can get a hike in on Grandview trail.

Tusayan is a good relatively affordable option just outside the South Rim. A few motels and restaurants there.

We did a road trip last year that included a couple of nights staying in a tiny town called Williams, at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. A fantastic hotel, and we were able to buy tickets to travel to the Grand Canyon by train from the hotel, which was a wonderful way to sightsee. You get to spend the whole day at the south Canyon, before the train takes you back to the hotel, we really loved this part of our trip.
