Don't go late night insurance shopping

Jeez-what is the point of insurance when it states;
"you will not be covered for any claims that are related in any way to your pre-existing medical conditions"

So, clearly I need to cancel this policy immediately & begin the process again...

Isn't that the case with almost every insurance? I know a few people who have had a bit of bother finding insurance who will cover their existing medical conditions, especially at an affordable price.

Think you'll need to declare pre-existing conditions for them to be covered.

If you read the small print on a lot of holiday insurance it will say something like - "if you have visited your doctor in the last 18months you need to provide details" so you might not be covered for something you wouldn't even consider to be a pre-existing condition.

For those of us with elderly parents it's even harder to get any proper cancellation cover as they will expect you to declare every medication , every doctor or hospital visit etc etc in the last 18 months.

So say you advise them that your parent is on high blood pressure medication - if they have a heart attack or stroke or die (god forbid) then you might not be covered for cancellation even if you have declared it all in advance.

It's an absolute minefield it's only when something goes wrong that you find out whether the company you have used is any good or not.

So the insurance company has declined to cover those medical conditions, which they are quite a liberty to do so. Didn't it tell you that online when you declared them?

Wow I did not know this! So even if you went for a routine blood test review a year before you travel, you will not be covered unless you call up the insurance company and told them? Surely a lot of people have been to the doctor in the past 18 months?

I'd phone them for a quote, they might speak to their underwriters there and then for a quote to cover the pre-existing conditions.

Yes to this - online is not always great for pre-existing conditions - if you speak to a real person, they nip through it all, ticking their boxes, letting you speak to their nurse if needed. Ours is with Admiral - they require 2 years worth of details of doctors visits, regular medication - EVEN if not prescribed - all were dealt with quickly on the phone.
