Road Trip August 2021
The plan was always to go back in 2022 for our every three year big trip. As a result of Covid-19, no holiday this year, working from home we have managed to save enough for a cheeky two week trip next year as well as the planned 2022 trip.
We decided to avoid Disney next year as its probably going to be rammed anyway and have always fancied a trip to the Florida Keys and are having a nice road trip now that the boys are older. I have put down a deposit for a flydrive in the September sale and have just taken advantage of the Black Friday sale for tickets to Universal. The plan is Fly into Tampa airport and pick up the car, we are going to drive down the western side of Florida across and then down the Keys to Key West for a few nights. We will make our way back up stopping at Miami and then finishing with 5 nights at Universal before flying home. I really hope that by next August we have returned to some sort of normality, don't mind having to test before/after trip and don't mind the masks, we just want to be able to go. |

Sounds fantastic! I can highly recommend Anna Maria Island for a few nights on your way down to the Keys.
We are hoping to do a Florida road trip in 2022 with some time in Orlando, AMI before finishing at Key West. Have a fab time! |

Sounds a great trip. We have covered this, albeit over several visits.
Anna Maria Island is really good.. as many DIBBER’s will tell you. Naples is a lovely place, particularly Delnor Wiggins State Park. Wild tortoises, non venomous snakes, turtle nests and a Manatee in our case. An airboat ride on the Tamiami causeway with Buffalo Tiger is absolutely nothing like anything you will experience around Orlando! ( There are some photos in the Boston trip report in my signature). When going down the keys, it is well worth stopping at the entrance to the 7 mile bridge and taking a walk along the old, disused one. We saw dozens of Iguanas at the entrance point and a turtle swam under us when we were on the actual bridge. You get some great photos, also. The Fisher shipwreck museum at Key West has some amazing gold artifacts from the Atocha. Have a great time, planning!
