VA Companion reward voucher.

I'm so sorry for sounding thick but it this possible...

I have a VA Companion Reward Voucher on my FC account.

Can I book one UC Z fare paid with cash and then use my companion reward voucher for the second seat and pay just the taxes on the second seat?

I am a red FC member so would i need to pay 57.5k miles for the companion seat plus the taxes?

I have spoken to a VA agent who tell me this is not possible and that I have to pay for the first seat with miles and not cash if I want to use the voucher and would indeed have to pay the 57.5k miles plus taxes for the second seat.

It's just that I found this on the Points Guy website:

What’s even better is that you can apply your Companion or Upgrade Vouchers on a cash fare, rather than just redemption fare. This means if you’ve earned a Companion or Upgrade Voucher but don’t have enough Flying Club miles for the first passenger to make a redemption, the first passenger can just book a cash fare. The first passenger can then apply the Companion Voucher for their companion or the Upgrade Voucher for themselves.

Me confused!

Got through to the right agent, third time lucky!

I booked one full cash fare, one companion fare (57.5k miles plus taxes) and one M&M seat...

So that’s us all booked for next year, something to look forward to, all 3 can be rescheduled (twice I think) should the need arise providing we travel by the end of Dec 2022.

Really appreciate your help
