So you can book as 2 'one-ways'. Is this normal? I always expected we would have to wait till the inbound is released to book.
Did you book all as rewards?

If you book 2 one way reward seats the taxes will cost more. I've been researching our flights for next year and would cost approx. £300 more for each person doing it this way.
FC used to combine them into a single ticket if you contacted them but are not able to do this anymore

Thank you all... Need to look into this more on what are the bet options for points / reward vouchers etc.
That being said, I have just been on Seatspy and seems a lot of availability for July. I take it with hopefully borders / holidays now opening up VS are looking to get people on their flights?

Yes book outbound on release and then add the inbound to the outbound to make a return and reduce the taxes.
We used this approach just this year for our original LHR to SFO flights and the agent was more than happy to combine them into a return. Depends on who you get though. I knew this particular agent from previous positive bookings which helped. Another strategy to avoid the high taxes is to book a return with the inbound the next or same day if possible. Then when your actual inbound date arrives, call up and ask them to amend the dates. You might pay £30pp to change but you get the return with no issues. Another strategy is to book the outbound on a 5 day hold. Then keep extending that hold until you are ready to book the inbound. Bit of a pain tbh. Maybe better to book the outbound on hold, then when a return becomes available in the next 5 days, you can convert that to a return, and amend to your actual date as above. We haven’t booked a cash only flight in about 15 years Edited at 09:15 AM. |
