Update- as the trip was cancelled for 2021 i have been waiting (impatiently) for flights for next year to look reasonable. Took the plunge to rebook my flights and completed the online form with Virgin for end of May and pleased that they have been accepted at no extra cost.

Now to plan out my days and visits again to get the best deals i can.

We are going in May next year too. Boston for four days then 6 down in central DC then we pick up a hire car at Dulles, nipping in to Udvar Hazy for the day. We have then got ten days to spend between Williamsburg, Culpeper, Smith Mountain Lake and Roanoke where our family and friends are. Can’t wait!

You'll be in my neck of the woods! May is a very pleasant time to visit DC and Virginia. Hope you have fun re-planning and I know you'll enjoy your time here.

thank you, i am thinking of hiring a car to drive from Washington to Williamsburg - never driven in the US or driven a left hand drive

You might want to consider a cheap, quick flight from DC to Richmond. Very easy travel when we last did it. You could then collect a car in Richmond n it’s a short drive to Williamsburg. You could return to DC by the same route.
Or you could stay over in Richmond & visit Kings Dominion - bout 30mins drive.
Happy Planning. 🙂

I was looking at flights from DC to Richmond to reduce the drive, though it does look easy from DC.
Looking at Kings Dominion too , trying to see how far it is from Williamsburg rather than booking another hotel

Our DC trip got cancelled this year too but we’ve just rebooked for March. Hopefully goes ahead this time! We’ve no real plans yet so must get on that soon as we’ll have so much to fit in, in 5 days!
