Over 60? Memories of mothercare..

Watching the news about mothercares demise brings back many memories of when the girls were born. No online shops, or much choice.

Terri nappies and plastic pants, a box for your goodies.

Here’s a few pictures from my mummy baby days

And finally not mothercare but my lovely silver-cross pram, that was passed around my family and neighbours for many years. Looked like this

Those dungarees, I have so many photos of my boys in those. And we had a denim look carry cot. With wheels too!
Our pram was a coach built Silver Cross and it was from a specialist pram shop and was delivered after you had the baby as it was considered bad luck to have it in the house before!

Ours too, all baby stuff was kept at mums and dads until after the event! I remember we had a beautiful wooden cot. A nappy pail was a must have and a boil wash order of the day! I loved seeing white bright nappies on the line on a breezy day

That was my son's Silver Cross Pram too, same colour. My Granny bought it for me,she had the money in an envelope and she'd written on it for Baby D in case I'm not here and a note inside telling me not to tell my 100's of cousins(well slight exaggeration) that she was buying it.I remember when we were moving house years later and we gave the pram to one of the removal guys as his wife was pregnant. Now I'm going to have to go look at old photos to see my pram, happy memories especially now my wee baby is 38!I loved shopping in Mothercare and still did for the odd thing when my Grandbabies arrived.

I remember trying on and buying a pair of maternity jeans 33 years ago in Mothercare. They had huge elasticated waistband and I didn’t think I would ever get big enough to fill them (I did 😀 ) They were so well made they were worn through all three of my pregnancies.

I also bought a glamorous black skirt and gold blouse in Mothercare for Christmas as our first son was born in January. It looked so nice on, even though I was very pregnant at this point

Another wonderful buy from Mothercare was the bright animal cot bedding, bumper and musical mobile I bought for our son. I loved it, and decorated his whole nursery with animals and bright colours.

I had one of the first Silver cross 3/1 prams but also the huge coach built one loved it it was Navy Blue I used to take the wheels off to scrub the tyres and polish the body of the pram
If the hood or canopy was up I could hardly see over the top
I remember buying stripy dungarees that my father said I looked like a beach ball with arms but I wore them with the oldest 2 and sister in law wore them twice as well I had a few really nice dresses as well
Loved the nappies on the line
No 1 you strapped the carry cot into the car by the time no 2 came along 3 years later infant seats had been introduced
I'm not yet 60

I used to put ds25 when he was a newborn in the white gowns at bedtime, loved them. My sister had the same pram for her 3 boys (I was only 10 when her first boy was born), my other sister had a brown one and they both dressed their children in the dungarees. My boys weren’t born for another 20 years so didn’t wear those ones but always loved ds in his denim dungarees. I bought a lot of clothes for ds25 from mothercare and Woolworths for the ladybird clothes but by the time ds21 came along the choice was pretty poor.
