Fiat 500

I've had terrible luck with my car the last 2 months that's seen it being not financially worth fixing so will be scrapped, and I've spent so much on it

Starting to look round and quite like the Fiat 500, is there anyone who has one who can offer opinions or advice, I've got £3500 and that's it.

I’ve just had one as a hire car while mine was in the body shop. Honestly, I hated it. I guess it would be ok if you are mostly town driving and don’t need to pull away very quickly! Personally, I don’t like such a small car and I felt quite vulnerable in it. The only good points were the dash was quite funky and the radio quietened automatically so you could hear the reversing beeps. The engine was louder than my diesel car! They are very popular around here though so can’t be all bad. My daughter has an Aygo and loves it, have you looked at those?

Had one on a whim (as it looked cute) for a month, couldnt cope with lack of acceleration at junctions etc, and the tiny tiny fuel tank that needed filling every week, rather than every three on my Golf. Also, was rather bouncy going along! I still think they are cute though.

Thanks for your honest reply, I have looked at an Aygo but was worried about the engine size and power, not that I know anything about engines
However I'm open to suggestions

They are quite cute, I'm a Ka person, I've had 4 and love their quirky ways so could look at the new shape. Thanks for your reply.

Between 2008 and 2016 the ford ka was built by fiat in their factory in poland, the only real difference besides the body shape between it and the fiat 500 is that the ka apparently has better rear suspension.

Edited at 11:20 PM.

I don't have one but looked at them when considering options. Apart from poor performance my main concern was with their safety rating.

Well I’ll be the minority... I love my 500! 2012 plate and she’s had one set of brake pads, a new door handle, a new headlamp bulb and that’s about it (my father in law is a mechanic so wouldn’t allow me to drive with any faults). I am waiting for her to kick my a** and suddenly need everything at once but I can’t complain. Actually, mine is very good at accelerating out of junctions but I find she’s very slow going from 50-70mph. I agree with feeling vulnerable in her though- I’m constantly getting barged by 4x4’s, BMW’s etc... our other car is a polo and it’s amazing the difference other drivers treat me when I drive that. They are like clown cars though- I can fit me, my uncle, his wheelchair and his guide dog in PLUS all of our shopping in with no issues.

My sister got one (automatic due to her having knee probs) second hand in pale lilac and absolutely loves it. Now 2 of her friends are looking at them for town driving and parking convenience. Suppose it depends what your really wanting in a car. Go test drive one n see if it suits what your looking for.
