Maingate Lakeside Resort
I have booked 2 weeks in Orlando for September 2020 with BA for £705, staying at Maingate Lakeside Resort. I know it is a cheap and cheerful Hotel and i am not bothered about having any type of luxury. What concerns me are the recent Trip Advisor reports (since i booked) they are not at all great and involve cockroaches, bed bugs, smells & unruly locals using the car parks, i contacted BA but was advised i could not change hotel and would have to cancel (lose £50 deposit) and then rebook. Has anyone stayed here recently who could give a bit of reassurance that this place is not so bad?

We stayed a few years ago to fill a gap...and were not impressed
lots of small details and better cleaning could have improved it somewhat

Same as Susan unfortunately.
We stayed back in 2012 for a couple of nights and were broken into the night we arrived! Checked in around 5 and got to our room, showered and went out for meal and returned after a couple of hours later. No obvious sign of a break in and it wasn't until the following morning we realised a case was missing. Nothing of value taken thankfully, but, our daughter was joining us from Canada later in the holiday and we were giving her some sentimental items from her Gran who had died just before and that hurt. |

We stayed there in 2010 when it was the Best Western and it was fine and again in 2014 when it was the Maingate. It was showing signs then of needing refurbishment. Google satellite views seem to show that a number of blocks have been demolished (the ones nearest Black Lake Road). We're not staying there next year though as we decided last time that it was going downhill.
Edit: It's a bit off that BA won't let you change hotel though. We did just this with our VH holiday without any trouble.

Sorry but it is every bit as awful as the Trip Advisor and PP have declared. I would ring again and see if you can swap hotels, if not I would bite the bullet and re-book.
ETA I have also changed hotels with Virgin this year and have only paid the extra cost.
