Nest thermostat
Hi all,
Does anyone have a nest control and thermostat? If so how easy are they to self install? Can you have more than one thermostat attached to it? Thanks |

I found it easy enough the instructions are pretty clear.
Yes you can have multiple thermostats and on the app you can set what rooms they are in and independent temperatures for different times of the day Edit: So basically it's a simple case of taking the old thermostat off, adding the new back plate onto the wall, skrew in the wires and mount. The online instructions walk you through the process pretty well Edited at 07:30 PM. Reason: More detail |

I have been looking at heating automation recently. I got stuck on Hive and Nest and these thermostats. I cant really understand them. I want to be able to control the heating in each room - temperature and time programme. It looks like Nest and Hive don't do this.
I am now looking at Tado as they do radiator valves and room stats for UFH. I need someone to try and explain how Nest/Hive that work generally from a single thermostat and don't have controllable rad valves helps (other than internet access and some self learning (which I am not interested in)). |

I don’t have Nest but I have the Honeywell system. We have underfloor heating throughout the house and each area/room is zoned. It’s made the heating so much easily to manage and has become much more efficient as a result

I think ChrisS has Tado and speaks highly of it. Fingers crossed I am right.
Having looked at them all I would opt for Tado above the others.

I have looked at Honeywell as well. Our UFH has thermostats in each zone so is pretty easy. It is the radiators that are a bit more difficult as you need new valves if you want to control. I think HW have rad. valves.
The reason I am thinking is that rad. valves look better (to me). |

Thanks MrTM.
Tado looks really smart and seems to have a great app. I still have to convince myself I need this. It is quite an expensive install - £50+ per radiator valve and double for new room stats (maybe the old ones will work but haven't investigated). I can burn a lot of additional gas for that. My main issue is that I want our bedroom radiator on at different times from other parts of the house. But as I say, I can just turn them all on - might cost a wee bit more, but payback might be many years. |

We have Hive and Hive Smart TRV’s on most of our radiators. Allows us to set schedules and temperatures for each room.
They are great when they are all working but we’ve have a few niggles and had about four of them replaced due to various faults. |

Wow that’s a bad failure rate. How much was that? 50%.
If so I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole
