Inserting a link

I can’t remember for the life of me how we shorten the link to look here or info here

Do you mean like this?

If so, copy the url link. Then type out you post, highlight the word you want to change into a link, click on the little globe symbol and then paste your link into the box that pops up.

I really must research all those little boxes above my text. I use bold, italic and font colour but the rest are alien to me.

Stu or SMAX - I guess there's a tutorial somewhere.

But Claudette is it any quicker as I had to open up Andy's web site anyway to find his address in order to copy and paste into the globe dialogue box.

On my HP laptop a touch and hold on his URL gives me "copy" option then cursor in my reply and ctrl + v

Still I'm always open to new stuff

No it isn’t any quicker for you as the poster and it isn’t any quicker for somebody reading either, I think it is more for neatness especially if there is a long URL.
