Mobile Villa booking via bank transfer?

As the title says I am close to booking villa via vr360 homes and the villa owner can only accept the money via bank transfer. Is this normal and does anyone have any experience of booking this way.

Many thanks

As villa owners we find bank transfers so much easier but we do also accept cheques and credit card via PayPal

Thanks Rob. I'm sure it is legit and the owners seem lovely but you just hear so many terrible scams happening nowadays it makes you weary. They don't have the facility to accept credit card or PayPal so bank transfer would be only option

You risk losing your cash if anything went very wrong. Not suggesting it will, but you've already answered your own question, and you are nervous.

No need for such risk in my view. There's hundreds of villas on Homeaway- get their protection and Consuner Credit Act Protection.

Nope. No real protection, I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks very much. Think this has answered my question. How do you see what dibb villas are available?

As already mentioned by another villa owner we accept a few forms of payment including bank transfer but again I let the renter decide which payment of method they would prefer. To see the villas available on the Dibb there is a villa request section plus a location map in the Dibb menu. Just pop your requirements in the request section and any available owners will respond.

I am a firm believer that bank transfer is the best option. Why?

Cost.
Service fees ultimately have a cost. So either you can afford a lower quality of accommodation for the same money, or you would need to pay more for the same accommodation.

What you get.
The middlemen websites may write the T&Cs so far in their favour, that the guarantee may be of questionable worth. If there is a problem with the accommodation, are they going to fix it, no they will ask you to communicate with the owner.

Quality of service.
Google HomeAway reviews. At best, you'll find things like this uk.trustpilot/review/homeaway. (Almost all owners would be mortified with a feedback score of 4.2.) At worst, you'll find things like this sitejabber/reviews/homeaway, sitejabber/reviews/homeaway, bestcompany/vacation-ren...mpany/homeaway) - (no owner would stay in business with scores like this).

Fear.
The likes of HomeAway etc are trying to create a fear that if you don't book with them, you won't be protected, the owner will scam you and it will all go wrong. But if they really believed that, they'd have no accommodation to present to you.

Reducing risk.
You can research yourself anyway to reduce the risk of things going wrong. See my sticky at the top of the accommodation section for how.

Experience.
In my experience, bank transfer is the norm. It works well. Around 80% of my bookings are bank transfer, 10% are PayPal and 10% are through third-party sites. The experience guests get is no different whichever method they use.

Online world vs real world.
Unfortunately, it is human nature that the online world will focus on negative experiences. You only need to look the first page of the accommodation section to see that many of the 'negative' accommodation threads are the ones that have the most views. And that negative threads do bring out a certain type of person or reaction, trust issues or negative thinking. But in the real world, the vast majority of stays go well, it's the negative ones you hear far more about.

Trust.
Ultimately, it comes down to trust. Yes, you are trusting the owner with (say) a couple of thousand pounds. But the owner has far more to lose - and is trusting you with the keys to their home, worth (say) a couple of hundred thousand pounds.

Whitelist.
There are plenty of villas on this forum that are recommended. Reading this part of the forum you'll find villas that people have stayed in and enjoyed, and in turn reduces any risk.
I have read that twice and am genuinely puzzled as to how any point demonstrates explains why bank transfer is the best payment mechanism.

Regarding the first point on cost. In the UK it is illegal to charge a customer more because they choose to pay by credit card. It is also prohibited in ten states in the USA, one of which is Florida.

I can’t comment on the rest as I truly cannot see the link between paying by credit card versus bank transfer and the points made. I don’t mean to be argumentative, by the way, I just do not understand.

Another puzzled reader here. I think Magnificent is mainly drawing a comparison between direct booking with villa owners vs booking through a third party.

There is really no doubt that payment by credit card clearly offers an added protection to that via a bank transfer. I mean no disrespect to any villa owners in Florida or elsewhere, but I wouldn't dream of paying for a villa booking with a bank transfer.
