Christmas in Lapland Day 3 Christmas Day

Hubby - Richard 34 (the one with the credit card)
Me - Teresa 37 (chief planner and organiser)
DS1 - Daniel 10 (Santa's Little Helper)
DS2 - Joshua 9 (Santa's Little Helper)

It's Christmas Day and we are in the Hotel Santa Claus with fresh snow outside and Daniel trying to wake us up at 6.30am. He had woken at 5.15am (UK equivalent of 3.15am) He could see some presents and a teddy peeping out of his stocking. He had struggled to stay in bed that long!

We managed to drag him out until 6.55am! Then it was time to see what Santa had left. The little envelopes with their names on had a card inside and said that maybe he had left some more presents at home, so that was lucky.
The main things he left them were their DS Lite's and a game each to play on the plane home, he also left them chocolates and other bits and pieces, so he was a very kind Santa!

Santa left Richard with a jumper, so he must have got in his good book, well partly! Santa left me a DS Lite! He is very kind!

After spending awhile opening presents and then getting dressed we went down for breakfast at 8am. We were given another glass of champagne and then the choice of breakfast buffet. Richard and the boys opted for cereal and a waffle or yoghurt. I made my waffle and also had a yoghurt, with apple juice then tea!

Fergus the Coach and Frosty the Elf were picking us up at 9.30am to take us to Santa Park and yet again we were waiting for that particular family, guess they must need a room call each morning.

Frosty the Elf

Santa Park is built underground.

Elf School was recommended to us, but the first showing wasn't until 10.30, so we went into the bakery and decorated a ginger biscuit, we paid the extra Euro2 to have the box to store them in, which does have the recipe on. At this point, I phoned my Mum and Dad and wished them Happy Christmas.

When we came out, it was time to join the queue for Elf School, there appeared to be people pushing in, especially when the Elf came out and said they could only allow 100 people in. So some more people started to try and push in, but the Elf from Elf school and one of our Elves stopped them all and sent them to the back of the queue, so that was really efficient and those that tried to push in, didn't get to go in as there was way more than 100 in the queue. We did however and it was hilarious, the Elves were so much fun and we were made honoury elves.

Once you graduated from Elf school, you could purchase a diploma, this caused a bit of a queue though and so we missed the Elf Show. The diploma's were Euro15 each, so we just bought the boys one as a souvenir.

We had to be back at the coach at 11.30am ready to go onto Santa Village and guess who was late back for the coach? yes the large party that were always late!

Santa Village is only a short distance away, so didn't take long to get there. We were advised that we would need to be back at the coach at 1.30pm so that the people who had booked more of the safari's would have time to relax and get ready. We hadn't booked any as we had done our Reindeer Safari yesterday. Frosty did say, if anyone wanted to stay longer at Santa Claus Village, then you could get back by taxi to the hotel. We opted for this and said goodbye to Frosty. We wanted to spend more time here, rather than rush around.

There are lots of giant snowmen around and they are made with real now and ice, we thought when we had previously looked on the webcam that they were fake, we actually saw them being built by crane on the webcam back in November.

Entrance where you wait for the Taxi.

Large Snowman and Larger Christmas Tree

It was now time to have some fun in the snow, first stop snow angels, this area was really quiet and we also had some snowball fights.

We then headed over to Santa's Post Office, this is where all the Santa letters get sent from all around the world and there were some up on display. There was an Elf sorting out a huge pile of them. The boys wrote postcards here for Nana & Grandad and Nanny. I wrote one for the boys, you then post them here and they receive the official Arctic Circle Stamp on. I posted them Christmas Day and ours arrived New Year's Eve.

It was now 1.15pm and we were all decidedly peckish and went to the cafe for something to eat. Fancy having burgers for Christmas Day lunch, well it was either that or reindeer meat, so burgers it was!

Afterwards, we had a good wonder around Santa Village, taking photos and looking at the lights, we crossed the Arctic Circle many times and we bought gifts here too.

At 4pm, we decided it was time to head back to the hotel as you have to go to the Information to pre-book a taxi, you are given a number, so no one can jump in your taxi before you.

Once back at the hotel, it was time for another shower as we had fresh towels and a little rest. We had to hand in all our Winter loaned gear to a room by reception, this was our second skin and had kept us toasty throughout our stay. Frosty and Fergus were picking us up at 7.30pm to take us to the Gala Dinner which was also included. We were going to a log cabin in the woods. Each coach is taken in one at a time and then seated, so no mad rush.

We had some very nice people on our table so had people to talk to. The Christmas Dinner was a Finnish/Lappish meal which was very nice, you did have to buy your own drinks though. Just as dessert was being brought round, we were ushered outside to see the fireworks and Santa arriving.

Each Coach party was called in a group to see Santa, so it was only them in the queue and then you had time to chat to him and receive a present. We were the last coach to be called and our family were last in the queue. Santa then posed for a photo with the Elves.

Fergus took us back to the hotel at 11.15pm and we decided to go and have a last night wonder around the town, as they did say it was a good, clear sky for the Northern Lights, we didn't see them though. The hotel sign said the temperature was -9C

We sat on the window sill until about 1.30am to see if the Lights were going to happen, but still nothing, so it was best we went to bed, especially as Daniel alone had been awake for over 20 hours!

Day 2 Christmas Eve
