Relaxing resort near Miami

We're probably going to fly into Miami next year and drive upto Orlando. However on the way we want a few days of relaxing, chilled out family time somewhere close to Miami.

Our daughter who will be 16 at the time will really want to spend some time in Miami itself, so we really don't want to be too far away.

A quiet beach would be a good bonus.

What appealed to your teenage son? We have a 15 year old so be good to know the benefits!

We loved south beach. We flew in and out of Miami so had a couple of days there at each end of the trip.
It was lovely to relax and try some really nice restaurants
I can recommend both the Grand Beach Hotel Surfside and the Eden Roc

If you want a really fab beach in the Miami area then Crandon Park beach on Key Biscayne is much nicer than South Beach. Our son found it when he was studying at University of Miami and it is where we always head to.

The burgers at Johnny Rockets and the breakfasts at the Big Pink! He absolutely loved watching all the amazing cars, Lamborghinis and the like that cruise up and down Ocean Drive. He moaned a bit about the heat as we were there in August, but has said he regrets that and is really looking forward to going back this summer.
