A lot on this thread is true but also a lot of generalisations because the right answer depends how you want to use your DVC.

For example I didn't buy to go in school holidays as I don't have children so school holiday availability is irrelevant to me. I want to go September / October as a general rule and therefore if I want to be on epcot resorts during food and wine I really need to own there. 11 months out I was locked out of a standard view at my home resort even walking the reservation.

I am a member of a facebook group and there is a lot of buyers remorse, I would say it is because people don't research properly and what they buy doesn't correspond with what they thought they were buying.

It is a truism that if you buy where you want to stay you will not be disappointed at 7 months. However if you would never be disappointed to be at your home resort even if you would like to stay elsewhere then this is also fine.

If you wouldn't be happy to stay there don't buy there.

If you are worried about availability I booked for September 3 days ago and managed to get 2 weeks at Disney property! Got 2 waitlists currently ongoing to stay at the same resort

County are you sure that DVC is the right fit for you ? Just throwing that out there as I noticed you saying that it would be 6 nights max, you're paying a fairly high premium for " just" 6 nights- £8-£9k plus annual dues- you would get the "Free Dining" deal for under £2k, so approx. 5-6 holidays to recoup your money & if you are already happy to stay in hotels offsite then ...
