Mobile Emotional day...

After 5 years of fighting the system our son has been diagnosed today with Autism... Its strange because we've suspected it for years but ive still found it a massive shock to be actually told he has and feel very numb at the moment...

I think that's a very normal reaction, but remember your son hasn't changed he remains the same child you love.
A formal diagnosis should allow you to access the support you all need.

Take some time to proccess the information, like has been said he is the same child, just you may be able to get him more help when needed. The battle unfortunately is on-going, education is probably next battle. X hugs x

Agree with other posts, even when you know before hand it's still a big shock to the system when you get that diagnosis ... when Lilly was diagnosed it's the only time I've seen my OH cry , we both cried but we both know she's still the same wonderful little girl she was before and it's her quirks and little differences that make her who she is and we couldn't love her more.
Hopefully you can now access the resources your son might need with an official diagnosis a lot easier than if you'd tried before. I'm not sure how old your son is my little girl was just short of turning 5 when we got her diagnosis so was at school and they were great and for ball rolling that end quickly too.
Hope you've managed a good nights sleep and feel brighter this morning , big hugs to you all xx

Hi thankyou, we've been lucky that hes already in a special School as we managed to get him statemented at 5 as his mainstream couldnt cope with him, hes been at the School for the last 5 yrs and has made amazing progress he will stay on and move to yr 7 in sept, the diagnosis will allowed them to also access more money and resourses for him also ... Thankyou so much for replying xx

Being in the right school is so important, sounds like you had that covered already! Always looking for the next step, you will be needing to ask questions about his secondary school provision. This is usually where it goes pear shaped. Get ed psych on board and get as many options available to you as possible, inclusion with mainstream is good, but it depends on how much "support" is actually given. DD attends a special school where she can stay until 19 if necessary. Secondary special schools are difficult to access. X good luck with everything and theres always someone here to offer support when going gets tough. X

Many Thanks for your reply xx
