Flying into Sanford - any recommendations?
Hi!
Is it any better to fly into Sanford instead of Orlando? We live in the midlands and can fly direct from Birmingham to Sanford. How far away is it from the main area? Thanks all x |

Use the 417 and add at least another 30 minutes to the drive.

Thanks for this, would you recommend it over MCO?

We haven't flown into SFB for maybe 10 years but going by Dibber's regular experiences on here it's almost six and two threes.
People always seem to get through immigration far quicker at SFB mainly due to the fact that far more international flights arrive at MCO. To offset that though is the 30 minute or so longer journey down I-4 or 417 to get to the attractions area. One major downside to SFB (at least 10 years ago ) was the dire selection of shops and dining when you've checked in for the return flight. Also don't forget that your choice of airline is limited to Thomson whereas at MCO you can choose VS, BA, TC and all the indirect scheduled options. Statistically MCO is 19 miles from WDW whereas SFB is 45. Mick

I found the airport run down and dire. The security staff was rude too. I personally would choose MCO over SFB, but if the price was right I would use them again. - I think only TUI fly there from Europe now.

Last time we went to Florida, we used SFB and it was great. I agree with dire shops and duty free. All security were very polite and even funny, they sang happy birthday to my partner's daughter on our way home, and called me the old man. Needless to say we're going back through SFB for our next trip, very soon

This year will be the 3rd time we have done BHX to SFB,last time as we went straight to Alamo for the car, we were driving out the gate within 30 minutes of stepping off the aircraft, it is a lot smaller than MCO and therefore quieter, which does mean there is not a lot in the departure lounge but i can live with that, the journey to WDW or Kissimmee is about an hour straight down the 417 about $5-$6 in tolls depending on where you are going

Hi
We used Sanford this year and would definitely use it again, it's a longer drive but also easy - straight along the 417. We found the staff a lot more relaxed and there is a place to get a burger on the way back but we always eat before the journey back at Celebration Rob |

As you can see, quite rightly, there's different opinions. I've just done a very quick check on our destination airports, at least as far as my 71 year old memory will permit. I think that we are near enough 15 or 16 into both SFB and MCO almost equally. Nearly all of our journeys into SFB were courtesy of good old TCD before they went bust around 2008 and were taken over by VH. Because we are a mature couple and no longer need to plan around school holidays we can travel at off-peak times and therefore tend to choose the scheduled operators because they fly year round and into MCO.
