I always pay at pump because its quicker.

I spent £45 on fuel on Saturday around lunchtime and by Saturday evening £45 had been taken off my card, do you only see the £99 if you login to your account straightaway then?

The only time I see the £99 is when after I have put in the pin and the pump then says that I can fill up to £99.

If this is the case then people will just stop using the pay at pump and go inside to pay, I will I never put more than £35/£45 so don't want the difference tied up for days.

Edited at 10:11 AM.

This is going to be rolled out to every pay at pump regardless of the garage. Its the financial sector that is doing this. See this from mastercard mastercard/en-gb/p...y-at-pump.html

To a degree they are going to "punish" the customer because they can't speed up their their transactions.

I filled up at Asda on Thursday. It took until today for the amount to show up on my pending transactions and it won't come off till tomorrow. That is too long. This whole 5 working day thing for payments back to accounts is equally a throw back to times of manual processing.

They do need to get their act together on this.

I work in a bank and it’s a massive problem with people knowingly filling up their car to the max when they know they don’t have the funds in to pay for the petrol. They then say that it wasn’t them that did it and someone must have taken their card and illegally used it. Believe me, it happens on a regular basis, thinking they can get away with it. I for one can’t wait for it to come in as it will stop me getting abuse from customers complaining that after the 5th time of them knowingly doing this, we close their account.

I don’t ever have £99 in my current account though as just move what I use to stop me overspending. Does this mean I’d need to move 99 pounds over for a 40 pounds refuel?!

Those people that spend more than they have in their account on pay at the pump should just not be allowed contactless cards as when I worked in a bank it was only contactless cards that allowed you too prepurchase fuel!

It’s not just contactless cards, it’s any card when you pay at pump as far as I understand.
I knowingly fill up 2 days before payday every month when I’ve got couple of quid in my account. Always seems I am running out of fuel same time every month! So, looks like I’ll be walking to work 2 days a month….! 😉

Maybe it’s changed, or I am getting confused with something else! It was a while ago I worked at the bank! 2017! Good luck with the walking to work…you could always bike!

No, your bank would authorise what's on your card and you would only be able to take that much fuel. So if you only had £45 left then it would pre-authorise £45 and the pump would cut off after you had put £45 worth of fuel in your car.
