I did it solo (well just with the dog) last August.
I came from Warrington so a bit further up than you and had one very long drive up to the Aviemore area where we spent a good few days. We then departed for Inverness and the NC500 Once on our way I found all places to be a 1 night stop, the places are quite small Northumberland is fab though and I love Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth, Seahouses If you read my trippie I did all on your list except the Jacobite train as we did a different one from Aviemore. Have a read because all the places I stayed at were of course dog friendly Any questions please feel free to ask

I’ve put together a brief pre trip report now in the pre trip planning section.
I read through your trip report and gave you a shout out in my other post because it helped me so much! It was a brilliant read and I’m planning to read through it again nearer to when we go to get some more ideas about where to eat/visit etc. Eating is going to be a mission I think as obviously we have a dog and my DS has coeliac 😳 I have found some lovely B&B’s and am staying in at least one that you stayed in. |

Benderloch beach just north of Oban is fabulous for dogs if you’re over that way.
