Mobile Rome -February 2018 - cheap as artichoke chips.

I didn’t plan to write a trip report for this but 1. when I was researching for this I found lots of useful info on here and 2. I know now that I am just fooling myself thinking I can go on holiday and not take pictures of my food...
This trip was a little spontaneous in that we had no plans to go anywhere in between our Florida trips but a Saturday night on the internet revealed cheap Ryan air flights for the February holidays and a great deal for a little hotel we knew in Trastevere and that was that. Cheap as chips, less than £150 each all in for 3 nights.
Dh and I have been to Rome a few times before ds was born and have always fancied taking him on a visit.
If you are looking for luxury look away now...

Trastevere is a fabulous area of Rome to stay. We go in 2 weeks time.
Every chance we get for a break we head off to Rome.
Atmosphere, food, wine. It has it all.

Day 1
An early start but at least we’d arrive early afternoon.
We booked Rome Shuttle Limousines to pick us up at the airport to save any time wasted after all there was pizza to be eating. It cost €50 and took just over 20 minutes to our Hotel.
We were staying at Hotel Trastevere , a very small hotel in a great location. Dh and I have stayed in Trastevere twice before and it’s great for places to eat and drink that are excellent and reasonable. The hotel itself isn’t fancy but the room was clean, the staff were lovely and you got coffee and pastries in the morning. What more could you want really.

Bags were quickly unpacked and we headed for lunch to Da Vittoria which was about 3 minutes away. It was 12 years since Dh and I had eaten here but the pizzas are still quality - really tasty and so thin.
We had 2, cheese and ham and ham and mushroom. A glass of wine for me and soft drinks, just over €30.

Followed by a wander through Trastevere, I love this area so much. And for any saddos among you like me this is the area of Rome in the Marissa Tomei film only you where her shoe comes off... it was a shame though as the church Santa Maria Trastevere was having work done on the outside.
We walked along the river.

Our plan was to take ds to the mouth of truth but there was a huge line so we carried on and had a wander round circus Maximus.
Nae Jaiket weather, blue skies and sunshine.

Have a great time. We will be going back so if you have any great restaurant reccomedations for Trastevere we’d love them.

For dinner we went to Alle Fratte di Trastevere, in the same street as our Hotel. I’d booked here. It was good.
Ds had garlic bread and seafood pasta.

Dh had melon and Parma ham which was amazing and pasta with salmon.

I had bruschetta with artichokes and spaghetti with clams.

We also had wine, water and juice for ds.
Finished off with tiramisu and melon with ice cream.

€68.

Of course even though it’s February you still need a walk and a gelato.
We found this wee place called Fata Morgana which did masses of different flavours of organic ice cream. This was in piazza San Cosimato right behind our Hotel. Ds had Stracciatella and hazelnut and I had coconut cream and papaya. Molto bene and €2.50 each for small cups.

This looks lovely, some tasty looking food. I'm really tempted by Rome, a friend just went a couple of weeks ago and had a great time, now I'm thinking about October half term!

You should go. Ds loved it. I’m sure your kids would really like it, total contrast to your New York trip other than the loads of walking and puddings😂

The weather was mixed but pretty good overall. Another couple of weeks and should definitely get a lot of sunshine.
