Id be interested in your review on there in particular if you do go, as I’ve looked at that place in the past and I think I’ll be back in NYC next year for my sister’s 40th!

I am not having much luck. My birthday will be in a Sunday, I just went to try and book but it doesn’t take brunch bookings at the weekend! I didn’t want to get there as it opens and I would be be very disappointed to rock up and be told of a 45 minute wait. Back to the drawing board..

What an absolute pain! I am with you - I want the certainty of a booking.

I wouldn’t mind if it was just any old Sunday, but I wouldn’t want to start my 50th with the uncertainty of a walk up. We will be in a suite in the Plaza so I am now thinking maybe we get some use out of the room by having champagne breakfast room service.

That sounds like it would be fab!

I’ve also read several times that the Union Square Cafe is nice for a special occasion brunch, but again I’ve heard it can be hard to get a reservation.

I will have a proper look shortly. I have just tried a reservation and it isn’t available on my date but it maybe that it doesn’t book this far in advance.

Looking forward to following this trip report, especially the New York bit. Only been once to New York on a cruise, it was in port over night so had 2 days there. Didn't eat out cos ate on ship. Would love to go back for a few days and do things leisurely . Really wanted to go to Katz deli for a corned beef sandwich. Not long now till you go, it will be here before you know it.

After some deliberation yesterday, Nev and I have decided to cancel our trip this year. I don't like the uncertainty of it hanging over and spoiling the run up. And if things take a turn for the better and turns out we could have gone, well I won't dwell on it. We have made the best decision we could with the information we currently have.

As I have posted elsewhere, it is funny because my four-oh trip to Australia was cancelled ten years ago because of a certain volcano. I am pretty sure I was due to fly on April 16th that year too.

In 2010, Nev phoned around and booked us into a super room at Cliveden House for a few nights and they gave us a Rolls Royce (with driver) for the morning of my birthday.

This afternoon he is going to ring up about a place we have seen. It is a tree house with a hot tub on the balcony. The hotel has a spa, pool and also a cookery school which we will book as both love cooking. We will (hopefully) have a long weekend there instead. If that falls through as well, then I will be found at home eating pasta and counting toilet rolls.
