I've been for years slowly buying pieces to build from star wars the death star 2 & star destroyer. These will have to to go on my list!

Inspired by this thread, DH bought me the instructions and pieces as a Valentines Day present...so this is how we've spent most of the afternoon

Starting like this

Wow what a lovely present, and very quick too, I spent almost a year buying bits here and there 😅

I’ve just ordered the magic kingdom one. I can read the instructions booklet but the other document isn’t readable when I open it, and I’m assuming that will tell me which pieces I need to buy since the instruction booklet doesn’t?

Oh never mind! I’ve just scrolled to page 90 and found the needed bricks.

Oh wow, it looks really hard to buy the bricks individually!

It isn't too hard if you are familiar with a site like Bricklink or Rebrickable.

The easiest thing to do is make a profile on Bricklink (this is a site for buying individual bricks) and then have a look on Rebrickable for the skyline. It will handily list all the bricks you need to build it, which you can then import to your 'wanted' list on Bricklink. This is the link for the 'lite' version:

rebrickable/mocs/MOC-522...ite/#buy_parts

Once you have a wanted list of all the bricks on Bricklink you then have options of buying individually or selecting them all and Bricklink will find the best sellers that have the most percentage of bricks for you to buy. Think of it like eBay but for lego. It can be a bit trial and error sometimes i.e. some stores don't have the full amount of a single item you need, or have a minimum purchase, but after a while you should figure it out.

Oh that is handy now I've looked and see what you mean! I think I'm going to leave it though. I bought the instructions, but looking at buying the bricks looks expensive or a lot of shopping around to get them all. It's a great idea and very clever, but too much effort for me haha. I should have looked into how to get the bricks before I bought the instructions, but at least they were only a few pounds.

If you do it over time it's not that bad

But yes, you are talking about £60+ maybe depending on how lucky you get with sellers. I used to buy £10 a month worth and build it up, doesn't seem so bad that way

Well after 2 weeks of going through my bag of leftovers (from years of lego sets!) & breaking down about 8 years of star wars advent calendars (only keeping the minifigs) I've ended up needing to spend £46 on about 400 pieces.

Just been & got the picture printed as a 6x4 photo as I'm going to make a box for all the pieces as it's for DWs birthday in 3 weeks.

DW thinks I've actually been sorting out parts for star wars sets I'd last bought bits for 8 years ago!
I'm trying to build the UCS death star 2 (83% bought for now) & UCS star destroyer (there's a new version but I already have68% of the older)
