3 months is the limit on an ESTA. If you have a visa it’s longer.

The trick is to make sure you spend longer outside the US each year than in it.

The property market is Sky high at the moment. My friend’s villa in Vero was on the market for three days this month , she had thirteen offers all above asking price so just picked the highest one which was ready to proceed immediately .
It might be worth waiting for the bubble to burst before buying, opinion seems to be the market is unsustainable at the moment.

Yes, definitely a seller's market now, with every house attracting a bidding war.

Some Dibbers have mentioned being cold-called by realtors trying to persuade them to sell.

OP, spend as much time as you can researching, sounds like you hope to spend a considerable amount of time over there, so, lots to read up on. Hope it works out for you.

ETA: I follow Ken Pozek on YouTube, he owns a realtor business, think it's in Orlando, he knows a lot about the surrounding areas. Yesterday, he said there were, on average, 12 bidders per property, all offering over the asking price - around $40k for some properties - this month, the average is 8 bidders. He thinks it will eventually even out, as this is not sustainable, but that it's still going to be a buyers' market for a while.

You should probably get some professional advice about the tax implications.

It is virtually impossible to retire to Florida for permanent residence
3months is the maxi do each year
There are rules about leaving for a bit and then coming back for another 3 months
An alternative is to apply for a 6 month visa...you need to visit the US embassy in London for that... and never assured
Probably try the 3months and see how you like it
But not now!
At present prices are skyhigh( going to highest bidders and entry to US barred through covid restrictins
Good luck with all your plans
