I just booked Dolphin as a backup at Xmas on Hotels.com and it then gave me car hire options and they had come right down.

I noticed hire for next May has dropped by quite a bit( still high compared to 2019) so it’s steps in right direction

This is great - we are flying into Melbourne next May - first 2 nights are at Hard Rock - thinking it may be good to arrange from there rather than do the drive from the airport.

How will you get from the airport though? Melbourne is quite a distance from Hard Rock hotel, just over 1hr 15mins so a taxi isnt going to be cheap for that distance and may eat into your savings. I suppose it would really depend on what the saving was as to whether itd be worth it. Unless of course you have a free transfer included in your holiday!

Maybe get a 24 hour car hire from Melbourne Airport to universal hotel. Just an option

The universal thing has been like that for a few months now as we have done the exact same picking it up at cabana bay as stay at Sapphire falls but no option on pick up there when booking with BA saved ourselves over £600 for next July

Yes of course - Uber quoting approx $82. Although I have never used Uber so not sure if that will go up with surge pricing.

I did that from Miami one year - big car for luggage and then swapped to a convertible at Disney. Was hoping not to drive as I like to have a wine with dinner etc…can’t do that if I am pick up the car. So used to DME from MCO!

Hopefully its the beginning of a trend but the prices of car hire have always fluctuated on a daily basis.

Not even close for our dates in December, they're well over £1000 and in some cases £1500 for a large car or standard suv. Costco were £650
