Exactly, pros and cons from both sides.

The main issue for me is the increased phone time.

The idea of having to be even more glued to my phone all day just doesn't sound appealing..

You can follow the normal genie and just go with what rides it recommends to use next, or book rides as you go along with genie+, the spontaneity is compared to the current fastpass + system where your plans are fixed well in advance for your first three choices. Though you still obviously need to book what park you going to in advance.

We can moan all day but they only thing that will make them change course is mass cancellations. Which I cannot see happening.
Complaint emails go straight to their deleted items folder.

They have been putting prices up by ridiculous levels for their Deluxe hotels every year and people still booked. They removed ME, extra magic hours, loads of shows and the big one free dining and people still booked. After the moaning stops people will justify these new costs in their minds and continue booking vacations.

WDW has a monopoly and a product that millions are extremely addicted to.

They have learnt over the years they can do what they want and people still go back regardless of what they do.

It won’t happen.
We are unhappy because many U.K. holiday makers make WDW the entire focus of their two week holiday. Most domestic visitors are only there for thee or four days and most other overseas visitors stay for shorter periods too, combining WDW or even the whole of Florida with other destinations. The impact is different.
I’ve been going to Disney long enough to remember pre any kind of FP, it was so much nicer. I want spontaneity on holiday not a spreadsheet ! I have enough of those at work !
Or maybe my addiction isn’t as strong

Exactly this! Glad I won't have to spend hours booking and rearranging FP+. Everything will be decided on the day, as it used to be. People have complained for years that going to Disney is like a military operation, haven't they?

Previously you could book your ride slots weeks in advance using FP+. So, as well as choosing which park you would visit each day, you would choose which rides you were going on and at what time. And you'd do that a month before your holiday.

With Genie+ you can't book the rides in advance. You can only book them on the day. So you'll have no idea which rides you will get or not. You'll turn up, go online, and then see what's available. You'd plan "on the fly", with the Genie service helping you to modify your itinerary as you go.

In reality, the new service doesn't so much add spontaneity but instead removes some of the potential preplanning you could do. Of course, in the old system you didn't have to plan things if you didn't want to; you could just turn up on the day and book fastpasses or go with the flow.

Or, to put it another way, for "spontaneity" read "rushed panic".

It'll still be a military operation for some but it will happen on the day rather than weeks in advance. They'll have minutes beforehand to plan rather than days beforehand.

They will get there and then, at 7am each day, they'll be on their devices booking Lightning Lane passes, boarding passes and rides using Genie+. Then they'll be reconfiguring their itinerary using the Genie service on the fly, looking at forecasted wait times for that day, and determining the best way to maximise their day at the park.

Others will then complain that they couldn't get Lightning Lane passes for the rides they wanted, they missed out on the boarding pass for ROTR and they couldn't get their head around the Genie+ system so ended up only doing 5 rides and standing in line for 90 minutes to go on Rock'n'Rollercoaster. They'll moan that they spent far too much time on the day with their head stuck in their phone and wishing they could've booked their fastpasses before they arrived to save them queuing up for so long.

I won't be one of them 😀

The only time I'd get up at 7am in the whole holiday would be to join a virtual line for ROTR, most probably on day 1 or 2 when I'm still jetlagged. For everything else, it will be on the go in the parks.
