Gatwick Premier Inn

We are (hopefully!) flying from Gatwick South in May 2022 on a 10:50 flight.

We are driving down the night before, as we live 4hrs away in the north east.

Intend to book the car in a long stay north car park, as apparently cheaper than the south parking and easy to get between the terminals.

Not sure wether to:-

A. Book a Premier Inn on the North Terminal & drive to the long stay in the morning. But this looks like I have to pay for 1 nights parking at the hotel (£16 ish)

B. Book a Premier Inn 3 or 4 miles north of the airport with free parking and drive to the long stay on the morning of the flight.

Not sure how busy it will be on the roads (Tues 3rd May).

Advice appreciated please

I'd be sticking the car into long term the night before, the day you are talking about is the day after the bank holiday so it will be busy round LGW

Agree, what's the cost to go straight into the long stay when you arrive? That way in the morning all you need to do is exit PI, walk across the road to the shuttle and you're in the south terminal in under 5 minutes.

Flown from LGW loads of times and what we always do is park at one of the official multi-storeys attached to whichever terminal we are flying from. We usually use their meet & greet parking and park up the evening before and stay at either the Hilton (south) if it's "free" with Tesco Deals or the PI attached to the North terminal if we are paying real money. We've often stayed on the north and flown from the south and vice versa, It's a two minute ride on the APM.

We always use meet & greet because at 75 we always return with two 23kg cases each and much easier to wheel our cases to the car on the same level rather than fighting with them on the car park shuttle.

Don't know who you're flying with but be careful though as BA are currently flying from North until things get back to "normal" I'm not thinking of booking hotel or car park for our late April flights for a while yet

Mick

Have a look at the pre-booking options on the Gatwick website. Sometimes they have offers which make it only slightly more expensive to use the short stay car parks if you book far enough in advance.

Advantage of that is your car is under cover but also saves the hassle of using the shuttle buses when you just want to get on the road home.

Of course, all this is with the caveat that who knows which airport let alone which terminal these flights will go from.

Thanks all, some great advice, I read last night that flights could change from Gatwick to Heathrow, was thinking of booking a PI at both (just in case) as you can cancel free 28 days before arrival.

After this advice , I will definitely drop the car off on the evening before the flight now though. Then it’s One less thing to worry about!

Does anyone know if the flight does change to Heathrow, what terminal is it likely to be from.

Does it even matter hotel location wise, is it easy to get between terminals like Gatwick?

Assuming it's BA, then most likely to be T5.

Getting between Heathrow terminals isn't as nice as Gatwick because they're further apart. But it's by no means complicated. And depending on which hotel you choose, they probably run a shuttle to all the terminals anyway.

Thanks, I’ll make a back up booking near T5 👍

Agree Gatwick short stay parking which is right by the premier inn. Book well in advance to get the best deal and saves loads of hassle, especially when coming home and can walk to car instead of lugging cases to the bus to get to long stay. Hubby wont do meet n greet as wants no-one to drive his vehicle
Use TopCashback as well (4.5% cashback)
