Looking on Auto Europe and collecting from a local office on the 192 then returning to MCO is about half the price of airport collection. That was Hertz next August.

I've just booked for 20 days hire (next August) from Tampa with Hertz for £545 for a full size sedan - but its not from the airport but from Hertz location about 3 miles away - the terminal price for same car was something like £1700

Pricing certainly seems ridiculous at the moment, making us think twice about a BA fly-drive. We'll see what September brings but incredible that there is a £4k difference for a 31 day hire of a Suburban depending whether you pick the car up at the airport or the Marriott!

There are deals out there for next year. Avis have hugely discounted prices if you are prepared to collect the car from one of the Universal locations and drop off at MCO. I booked a group F Mazda CX-5 for 16 days next May for £620 with no deposit and no charge for cancellation. Collecting the car from MCO was more than £1400. I had a quick look at June dates and prices are similar.
BA also had these prices if collecting car from a Universal hotel so you should be able to bring down the car hire cost of the fly drive
