Anyway no, I would have felt cheeky asking for a swap because the travelling companion of the stranger in the middle was sat in the other aisle seat. They were interacting frequently and if we had swapped they would have been totally split up whilst we cosied up in between them.
And there in lies the problem with not paying to book seats on BA particularly in Club, you can end up with less than ideal seats or being split up.
We generally always travel as couple & sitting together is important particularity for Mrs ABZDisney so we also pay to select two seats together, I think it's ridiculous that you have to do it but BA make a lot of money out of it & are not going to stop doing it.
We've been asked to move seats a few times over the years, usually whoever is sitting in the aisle seat to accommodate someone who wants to sit across the aisle from their husband / wife / partner, we've had reactions running from righteous indignation that we weren't willing to move to accommodate the other person to people who just were shocked that BA couldn't sit them together in Club.
I even found someone sitting in my window seat once when I boarded who told me that because he was a gold card holder he could sit anywhere in the cabin & had chosen my seat because he preferred window seats & that I should go & take it up with the cabin crew who would direct me to his seat.
Needless to say I did go & find the one of the crew who promptly ejected the interloper & told him to sit in his assigned seat.
Were flying business class with Aer Lingus this November who don't charge for seat reservations.

.
We have always had at least silver status until this last trip, so this was the first time we had to take our chances on seats at seven days. It was less than ideal, but not a problem for us. Not a £400 problem anyway.

My days of having a gold card with BA are unfortunately long gone, so we have been paying to reserve seats in club for a while now, it does wind me up particularly if we've paid cash for the flight & then have to pay more for the seat, but we factor it in to the overall cost & if we've got the flights with Avios it lessens the sense of injustice.
We've been trying other airlines business class products recently & have been pleasantly surprised, particularly by Aer Lingus who have become our preferred carrier to get to the States, clearing customs & immigration in Dublin is a huge bonus & they have some great business class fares from London.

The only issues I have with Aer Lingus is I can’t get a good sleep, as I find the “coffin” for my feet too restrictive, that and whilst I live the USCBP in Dublin, in the return Aer Lingus doesn’t partake in the TSA pre check, so even in the low season, you're in the big queue to get through customs leaving. American for us is better, from Dublin but I can get Aer Lingus cheaper from BHX For the same flights with BA
