I have stopped events this past week. Was meant to be at an awards dinner last night in London, but couldn’t risk it. Son says he wants to go to a party tomorrow but we know someone going whose mother has Covid so have bribed him with a Chinese and we will pay for wifi on the plane for him😂
I have not gone on my usual Friday night 3 hour pub trip.
But they are at school and our daughter will be in her hairdresser Saturday job tomorrow so what do you do?

Its a balance - I went to the RA today for the delayed Summer Exhibition but it wasn’t overly busy (unusually) even tho as friends of RA we booked months ago it was free so could have not gone . Then a long lunch at Charlie’s which was very busy but we were well placed and apart from a long chat with Rocco Forte we were pretty well isolated . Taxi home now I am sort of taking a balanced view for next 8 days. Wont be in going to the Messiah next week or out to suppers but doing a lunch mid week with a friend (who has had covid twice and triple jabbed) at Megans Terrace - outside ski lodge type place . Its failing the test before my flight I am trying to doge - once there (and when back in UK) it will be business as causal ie social gad about

Yes apparently Omicron is much higher in London area so watch out and play it safe so you get your LA trip in. It will come as a massive relief I’m sure to get out of this madness quickly. I was down in London last week. Rather than go on the tube (I normally don’t give a stuff about covid but already the thought of holiday was kicking in) I took a Boris bike from Kings Cross and rode it to the City Ate in a restaurant and wore FFP 2 mask on the train.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone think Omnicron sounds like they should be attacking NEST for the all spark?

Your household sounds like mine. Our daughter (hairdresser) doesn’t live at home anymore and isn’t coming on this holiday. She is so busy that we probably won’t see much of her before we go. I’ve bribed one of my sons to miss a ‘gathering’ at a friends house next Saturday. He is possibly playing football tomorrow with 5 or 6 friends as that’s outside and I am taking/picking him up. I’ve then asked all of the boys to stay home until we go, which they are happy to do. They all have games consoles, Netflix etc and each other for company so it’s not a hard task! My husband and one of our sons are working until we go but they only come into contact with customers outside and have worked throughout the pandemic so it’s no different. They all want the holiday more than the socialising and I’ve told them that once we are home and they are back at college/Uni/work, around many people, they can socialise to their hearts content. Living/working in London and the higher case numbers here means we need to be that bit more careful.

Hopefully we will all be there in the next couple of weeks 🤞🏼🤞🏼

We made the decision this week. We were planned to travel 26th Jan (September 2020 trip rebooked twice). January was not a choice but I had to get my holidays in at work by end of Feb (which has now been changed to a calendar year so that’s caused a headache in itself).
With the new changes and not knowing what would happen we had a big talk. Dh looked into the testing here and it was going to be another 260 on top of what we have paid already. We were stressing where to have the test (a chemist near here advertises they do it n DH spoke to them and they said they do) but I was going in the covid travel link and it gives a list of approved testers and they aren’t on. So this was stressing me. We discussed also that when you go on holiday when you get to the airport and check your cases that’s when you should relax - and we wouldn’t. I came on here last week and read threads of people who are there now worrying about a positive return test. That’s what scares me - it’s just me and DH and I would be terrified of one of us testing positive and not being able to fly home - being over there quarantined until a negative test. The cost of it the stress of it. DH isn’t really a worrier but he said the same he said that’s what would be in your mind. He worried that we might avoid doing things for risk of infection - eating in crowded restaurants/going into crowded shops etc.
so DH spoke to our travel company who said if we cancel we would lose 60% of our holiday now and had up to 15th to decide whether to move it to 2023. Nothing will change between now and Wednesday so we moved it.
We both think it was too stressful and we don’t want it to be that you breath a sigh of relief getting on that plane coming home!
Our next trip is September - that’s 9 months away and a lot can change but also that’s after summer things, this is right after winter people at their lowest catching all sorts quite vulnerable anyway. Hoping summer/warmer weather might be less of a stress?

I didn’t want to start a new thread but it feels a bit like it’s a matter of time now before US close their borders to us. Or is this overly pessimistic? We are meant to be going to WDW at the end of January, although I’m not convinced we will get there.

lol loving the bribe!

My son is supposed to be going clothes shopping and I'm like do you really need anymore clothes! Think of all the overpriced ones you may be able to buy in Florida!

We had ours moved twice n running up to the holiday in September was so stressful. Kept coming on here reading threads and the date kept being moved back and back - being honest it was finally a relief when we found out our flight wasn’t going to go ahead.
Rebooked for January - really not ideal, not a time we wanted to go or anything totally tied up my holidays at work but I had to get my holidays in by the end of Feb so had no choice. Aside of all the tests/the worry of a positive coming home etc the other thing was I don’t want to constantly check to see if the holiday is going to go ahead or not.

My level of confidence is the same as its been since I booked when Biden announced borders would reopen. Expect we will be going but prepared we might not.

Nearly ADR booking day, restaurants chosen, paid for WDW and Car Hire yesterday, Universal tickets purchased, have to say I am getting excited.
This is the attitude I'm taking.
If everything stays as it is, we're planning to go. I'm a bit anxious that our test the day before might come back positive and we will be very disappointed, but who knows what might happen between now and then. We can be as careful as possible, but our little girl is still in nursery 4x a week.

I've checked our insurance so we can make a contingency if our test to come home is positive and also contemplating taking our work laptops just in case we do need to isolate out there.
