The car hire prices are just extortionate aren’t they? I know you travel quite a bit are you ever put off driving in the summer in this area with the unpredictable weather? This does put me off slightly as last time we were there in Aug we had tail end of a bad storm and it just rained and rained for days. I know that a sounds odd and if I was going to California I wouldn’t even be thinking like that but planning a bigger road trip whilst the weather could be iffy
Have you done your reviews from your last trip if so I will seek them out
I’ve booked my car for Xmas and summer in a package with BA and it’s not been that bad, maybe look at that.

When we did Smokies etc it was crazy hot. I think I’ve never known it hotter than the day trip we had to Gatlinburg. Basically we had to come home after an hour. It was unbelievable. Florida never had anything touching it. Remember we made it into Baskin Robins and I was looking at people coming in, and they may as well have been in the shower so much sweat was pouring off them. We couldn’t even walk around so went back to the cabin and pool.

Charleston was similar, but not quite as hot.

Only rain we had that trip was we were watching the fireworks (free) at Hilton Head and the heavens open. It was one of the worst storms we have been in. I’m not joking saying I waded across the car park to the car, water was 1 to 2 feet deep. And there was also some rain came in when we were on the beach in North Carolina. They had these wardens on there, and they made us get out of the water and get under a Boardwalk for shelter with fierce lightning. This warden fella, an old guy, told me he had once shouted at people to get out of the water and they had ignored him, and he’s watched the lightning hit the water, travel under the water and electrocute the people. I’ve never forgotten that and get out of the sea if we see lightning now.

That particular trip was 11 years ago, i wasn’t a Dibb member then so haven’t done reviews.

It was my HHI trip that got me on my long journey of looking into DVC as I’d ignored the booths in the parks, but saw that hotel opposite where we were staying and was wondering why we had never heard of it, and started looking into what it was all about. A good few years later, after endless research we took the plunge with DVC.

Absolutely love HHI.
All I’m going to add is if you do go please have a night out at Skull Creek Boathouse. One of the best places I’ve been for a meal and entertainment. Very family friendly and the most stunning views from the dock.
