Golf buggy hire on Anna Maria Island
Sure I have read on here before about problems with insurance preventing hire of these for UK visitors.
Has anyone rented and managed to get insurance cover? Thanks

Yes that is correct, the insurance they often provide with the hire only covers US Residents so you will not be covered and would need to look at a separate policy and I can't remember where I looked as it was years ago but when I DID look it wasn't cheap to get the insurance.
It's worth mentioning as well that I have American extended family members who rented a golf cart (Not on AMI) and another Golf Cart driver who was driving it drunk ran them off the road and they were very badly injured (in hospital for weeks upon weeks) and years later one of them still bears the pain from the accident, it was a slow moving collision but because of the way the golf buggys are built and there are no sides it was flipped and they were trapped underneath it and had no protection when it was gliding down the tarmac. It really put me off ever renting one, but if you do, you must absolutely make sure you have full insurance just in case! |

Thanks for your reply 👍
That's really scary what happened to your family members in one ! Will have to consider it carefully if any affordable insurance is available!

We have been to AMI several times - we find the trolley bus really easy to use, or we walk up the beach from the beach cafe to bridge street.
I understand that not everyone could walk that far but if you can its a great way to pass a couple of hours. Other than that the trolley bus gets you pretty much everywhere you need to go xx |

Yes we use the Trolley all the time as well - if that fails there is the Monkey Bus which you can either flag down or give them a quick call, they will come and pick you up and drop you where ever you want to for a small tip (which is usually recommended $1-$2 per person in your party depending on how far you go)

We were there for 5 days before Christmas and just used our car to travel up and down the island. Luckily Bridge Street was only a 5 minute walk for us.

At busy times (between Christmas & New Year for example) parking is impossible at Bridge Street, use the free trolly.

No problem - we have used it a few times as the trolley stops at 10:30 and we were staying at the top of the island on Pine one year and we were right down by bridge street and missed the last trolley and didn't fancy the massive walk back with 2 little kids and another time it didn't come as there was a storm, we flagged down the passing monkey bus and then started using it when it was later on in the evening especially if we had "just" missed a trolley as it was better than waiting for the next trolley, we never knew how much to tip but some locals told us the $1-$2 per person depending on distance thing, there are 4 of us, we tend to just tip $5 no matter where we go.
They have one that is like a bus (like a mini school bus) and a large golf buggy as well, they even pick up from Tampa Airport! This is the number to store in your phone +1 941-565-6542 |
