It's currently parked outside my house on the grass verge. I really dont think I can bring myself to call a scrapyard to come and get it (it's undriveable). She really is a member of my family. My DW thinks I'm a soppy old sod!
I’ve just been and emptied her out. Trudging across the road in the rain. Under the front passenger seat was a train ticket from 2010 and £3.76! Every cloud eh... 😥😥😥😥

Good job this is only the Dibb and not a public website that can have me locked up for lunacy …….

This is her in the snow a couple of years ago.

I don’t know about Phobos, with so many idiosyncrasies, Phobia might be more appropriate! 😂

I don't think you are. I know they are just cars but I really miss my Mégane scenic 06 reg. Had it until 2015 when she started to cost me so sold her. I bought a Clio estate and there was nothing wrong with the car I just didn't take to it. Sold her 2017 and currently have a kadjar that I do like but still miss my other car.

Me I’m totally opposite now. They ( the cars) are just lumps of metal/fabric/plastic etc. With no character

However, cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s had some soul in them, probably because if you had a British built car of that era, then you needed to be close with it as they were always needing work done on them.

In the mid 70’s a friend had a new Morris Marina. That winter it just wouldn’t start if it was damp. It had been back to the garage umpteen times and one morning when it wouldn’t start again he phoned the service manager who said, ‘Sorry sir, it’s just not Marina weather!’ I don’t know about having soul, it was soul destroying- he couldn’t wait to get rid.😂

Gosh, remember the junk that British Leyland churned out! I did so want a Marina, or an Allegro, or the Wedge. Not!

I had a very sad moment walking away from my first car at the ford dealers, I’d had her about 3 years, she was a 2000 Ford Focus, silver and rotten underneath, but I still loved her! She had character!
My current car is a lot nicer (61 reg focus) and I don’t miss driving the old one, but there’s just something about your first car!

I'd forgotten about the 'wedge' - was that the Austin Princess? My first new car was a mk2 Ford Escort. After I'd had it about a year I had a puncture and took the spare wheel out. Under it was a waxed paper bread wrapper and a some mouldy sandwiches - probably somebody's lunch on the production line at Halewood. They knew how to do quality control in those days!

Great thread. The old cars had great character. Same as the old cars in the us in the 90s. I loved seeing the extra long Cadillacs with white walled wheels reminded me of the streets of San Francisco.
My first car was a green mk3 cortina cortina estate. To start the car I had a wall switch to isolate the starter and a wall rocker switch to start it. No ignition barrel. No heating but it did have a radio.
