Passport expiry and booking flights query
Hi all I’m abit confused about booking flights. We are not going till next September but do I need a valid passport to book the flight the passports still have about a year left on them. I was planning on renewing the nearer the time as don’t want to loose time on them but not sure if I need to to renew before I book the flights...
Many thanks 😊 |

You don't need a passport to book a holiday but you will need it to be valid for the period of travel - no grace is required for travel to the USA.
Don't forget to do your ESTA though - most of us say at least 6 months before you travel and before you commit serious money. Mick

Hi
Welcome to the Dibb! You can book a flight at any time, but you will need a valid ESTA (or Visa failing that) for entry into the US. Does your passport expire before you plan to go to the States? Your ESTA needs to be applied for with the details of the passport you are travelling on. You do not need months left on your passport when you fly however- as long as it is valid when you travel on it that will be fine. 👍 |

Thank you. They expire in August so need new ones before we go but was just trying work out if I needed new ones before I booked our flights. Otherwise would have lost 10 ish months on them. So much organising to be done 😬
