A good week
My DS has a book which monitors his behaviour at school and I would like to proudly annouce he got 20 out of 20 smiley faces this week for the first ever time!
So as a special treat he got £20 to spend on Dr Who figure (they are 3 for £10 in Asda at the moment! )

you must be extremely pleased with your child i know i would be especially as you are still going through that initial diagnostic phase
but can i ask, do you think the book helps his behaviour? if "yes" then that is great but if "not always" then i would ask for his own version of the smiley book so your son can record if he's been happy, sad, upset or confused during the lesson we asked the school for this with my son when he was in a mainstream school and we realised the teacher would say naughty for typical asd behaviour that my son could not control, often he wasn't naughty at all he was just confused because they hadn't told him what was coming next worth thinking about ? specially for those "bad" weeks when your son may not have been bad at all but showed behaviour that the teacher did not understand was part of his condition and how much little control he may have had over it also worth thinking about is that in specialist schools charts such as these are rarely used, they would provide a home/ school book and something like my son used to need where he can record how he's been during the day and then the teacher would write a quick message the focus is never on good or bad but more on understanding and coping hope you don't feel like i'm criticising i am just trying to pass on some info from pitfalls we have allready climbed out of Marie |
