I might be confused, contacted solicitor and a notary.
I'm pretty sure we paid $97 for our license at the Courthouse and the ONLY thing we had to show was our passports

Any chance of a straw poll to see how many have got licences without their birth certificates? I ask because my OH has a different name on his birth certificate (long story, long time ago) than his passport (how he managed to get that is another long story...) and we're afraid this would complicate matters.

The license is $97.50 and you do need to have cash as they stopped taking credit cards last year. The process really shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes and I recommend that you go to the courthouse when they open simply to avoid a queue or to have it take up your valuable holiday time. You can download the application for the license and complete it before you go to the courhouse. That application is located here.

The handbook and wait time only applies to Florida residents so you could literally pay an additional $32.50 and get married right there at the desk if you wanted to.

If you have been divorced within the last six months you will need to bring documents showing final judgement.

I'd be interested in this too, since I have no idea where my Birth Certificate is and it would be an extra hassle to get a new one, particularly if it isn't needed.

Your passport is what you need. Birth Certificates are for US residents.

Thanks for clarification Carrie, We have just bought OH birth certificate and what a hassle! He was born in the RAF in Germany and his mam lost his certificate, oh well only paid £10 and we have got in now anyway.

Personally I always tell my couples that if it makes them more comfortable bring the documents that they have (including divorce papers even if it is longer than 6 months) simply to give you peace of mind. I'd rather have it than not. Honestly, the passport and final judgement (for divorce 6 months or less) is all you need. It is quick and easy and most people say to me they can't believe how simple it was on the day.

I think we may just go and get it whilst we are there then.

Does anyone know how much a taxi would cost? We have had a quote for $150 round trip.

Thanks

Which resort would you be going from to get to the courthouse?

Edited at 09:21 PM. Reason: spelling
