We never book seats in advance. Just book in online 24hrs before flight and pick seats then. We have never been seated apart (2 of us). Personally I think you should be able to book seats when you book your flight. Makes BA more money, I guess!

In WT+, I would recommend keeping an eye on the seating plan if sitting together is important to you. It can be a small cabin and fill up, much more so than Economy, due to both less seats and a greater share of people with free advance seat selection from frequent flyer status. If it looks like it’s getting full, you may want to pre-book.
