Mobile Can a 16 year old apply for adult passport?

DD turns 16 at end of April. Looking at website, it suggests If never held uk passport, three weeks before 16th birthday she can apply for adult passport. I can’t see what happens if she has held a passport. Do we have to apply for another five year child passport, in which case I may as well just apply now, or can we wait til April and apply for adult 10 year passport? We go first week of July so don’t want to leave til end of April to apply as will need to redo her ESTA once we have new passport number

My. Understanding is that three weeks prior to their 16th birthday they can apply for an adult one irrespective of whether they have held a passport or not.

Having had a quick look I would say if you renew 3 weeks before her 16th she should get a 10 year adult passport.

We did this for my daughter last year. She had held previous passports so it’s definitely doable. Nice to know this one lasts for 10 years now

Perfect, thanks all. Website reads like the three week rule only applies for first UK passport
