Annual Passes

Hi

To upgrade to annual passes in Disney & Universal, do you have to upgrade on the first day you use them or at any point?

I believe you can upgrade them at any point prior to your final day.

Note that the start date of the Annual Pass is based on the date when you started the original ticket, not the date you upgraded. Also, if you used the ticket to visit a waterpark (for example) before upgrading then you have to upgrade to an Annual Pass that includes access to the waterpark(s).

you need to upgrade BEFORE your ticket runs out
this means that the latest you can leave it is on the last day of your ticket

BUT, if the AP you're upgrading to entitles you to discounts on merch or dining, then they start when you upgrade, so the sooner, the more savings

Was also going to say if your AP will include free parking this is another reason to upgrade straight away.

The official policy is you can't upgrade a 3 park to a 2 park - has been since August 2018 at least. Some people have got lucky and found a CM who still is willing to change a 3 to a 2 but it is very rare and as said the policy states it can't be. I don't have the latest upgrade price unfortunately as I upgraded in 2018.
