A/L from work do you think it will change ?
Do you think the way we take holidays from work will change due to the ever changing quarantine on return from your holiday(if you cant work from home) ...I work for a large company but only one person can be off on holiday at anyone time ...Well the last couple of months one of the departments only has 3 members of staff and with having to quarantine at one time none of them were in .I was thinking this could have a big impact on company's in the future with staff potentially each having a month off for a 2 week holiday so do you think they could change the way holidays are done if so any ideas on how or what ? hope this makes sense ?

Yes it has impacted us massively, at my DH place of work only one member of staff can have time off at any one time and only allowed to book 1 year exactly in advance. There have been huge redundancies there and now with less staff they are stricter on A/L, devastated that his leave has just been declined for our next years Fl holiday that we have been planning for 18 months,Dibb villa booked for over a year. Feeling very upset and deflated especially as our County has just gone on lockdown and I cant even visit my Mum to have a little cry 😥

They will have to think about policies yes.
Some of these policies of numbers of staff for cover are going to need to be re-thought. They will need to cross train more people to be able to cover critical functions (although they should have done this already) and many should be looking at business processes to see how they can work better or be automated (fully or partially) to remove the risk in the first place. Unfortunately many will just plough on with the same draconian practices they have today, especially with people in fear of their jobs. Not sure many will change to allow for quarantine to take place where they cannot work through that period. Adjustments may be made for what activities can't be done that make up part of the role that cannot be achieved. Say for example a small part of their role requires visiting offices or customer sites, but can be done remotely with some compromise. Otherwise I see the organisation making it clear that employees should not go to countries where quarantine is required if their role cannot be done remotely upon return. |

yes I see what you mean ...but I was thinking more in terms of bringing quarantine in whilst you are away or after you have booked or just before you depart

Difficult for where it changes whilst away. you could see why they have to make an exception here. It could lead to another colleague having their holiday cancelled to cover some of your quarantine.
For where it changes before the employee should have sufficient flexibility to either change location, postpone or insurance to cancel. May feel harsh, but its the employees responsibility, destination is their choice. |

yes - providing they give as much notice as the period of leave. So one weeks notice (or one week+ 1 day) to cancel one week leave

I’ve had to cancel someone’s leave before. Absolutely worst feeling in the world. They were able to move it or be fully reimbursed.
My day job just wouldn’t cancel leave, and the theatre can’t stop me 😂
