The last thing to do for the kitten is to ensure he has a place only he can go. So just get a cardboard box, cut a hole in it just big enough for the kitten to get into and make sure he knows it's for him so put treats in there to entice him in to start with.
Your older cat should not be able to get in so you may have to put something heavy on top.

It's always a risk getting separate cats, but with care, it should all turn out ok.
I had a ragdoll and his friend as fosterers a few months ago .. he was lovely but jeez, such an attention seeker!
I currently have a British Blue in my cat room, she's beautiful but really snuffily because of the breeding that happens. Grrrrrrr

Hi Bats, thanks for the advice! I knew I'd read someone on the forum fosters cats before and I'd been hoping they (you) would reply!

I've continued with scent swapping but don't have a box for the kitten to run to which would be great for him as he does scurry away when my older cat gets too rough. My cat can always get to him currently so I just have to end the meeting.

Is your British Blue snuffily because of bad breeding do you mean? Very sad

Thanks again

I used to have British shorthairs, I also have had a Persian and currently have two pugs. The Persian and pugs, for sure they are snuffly but I would never ever have thought that about my British Shorthairs.

We're currently introducing ours too - existing cat and new kitten and it's our older cat I'm more worried about. At the no she has a runny tummy (she is a little sensitive) and also had the upheaval of a missing sofa (long story!)...

Hope things calm down for us all soon!

Poor thing! I find the same with my older cat, he seems more bothered than my kitten

We've had a lot of progress the past two days

I hope it's going well for everyone else

They are beautiful! And look so relaxed!

We have a bit of progress - older cat is sat in the same room! Looking down with a mix of annoyance and amusement!

Baby steps ! I'm surprised how far we've come since I started the thread, we've had him two weeks on Tuesday. I've found giving them treats worked well in getting them in close proximity without trying to wrestle

Your kitten is so cute

We have an old grumpy but lovely baroness cat, a three year old boy and introduced a new girl kitten to the fold last year.

Baroness Jasmine tolerates both cat and kitten, still to this day!

On the other hand, our boy cat took the kitten under his wing from day one to the point where for about 8 months (!) she was sucking his pads like he was a Mum cat! They get on really well.

Baroness is less happy and it did stress her out. You can buy plug in stress reducers for the house which can help. Plus we keep her food absolutely separate to the other two and she has her own space.

I hope your new addition to the family gets along ok!
