Mobile Best Flydrive deals

Has anyone had good experiences of booking a Flydrive package and then sorting your own villa?

Looking for next year and BA have good deals on but means flying from LGW and travelling from NE England.

Also the BA Flydrive packages use Budget or Avis for their car hire but we’ve only ever used Alamo.

Any reviews on those would be appreciated 😃😃

We’ve had about 6 BA flydrives over the last few years. They always seem to be the cheapest for our dates (summer).

Not had any problems with Avis. I would recommend joining the Avis Preferred scheme before booking, and linking it with your BA booking - you add it in during the booking process. This means you can go straight to the garage. For future bookings your name should be on the board in the garage, so you go straight to your designated car.

The main difference with Alamo is that you don’t select your own car - it’s pre-assigned. However, if you don’t like it, go to the kiosk and they’ll allocate another one.

we did a fly drive last year with BA - was great. Flight from LGW and car with Avis. We have one booked for this year however flying into Miami as it saved a fortune ... its not until october so staying hopeful we will still go!

We did a BA flydrive last year, LGW - MCO with Avis car hire. We didn't have any problems with it, in fact we plan on doing it again next year.

It’s what we do.
However, we fly to Dublin first as that reduces the price considerable (business class)
Catches the same flight from Gatwick, but significant savings over going direct to Gatwick.

Warkman - how do you book that? Through the BA website? Was that 11 months out? (Sorry for all the questions)

Always book fly drives with BA as they consistently offer what we want for a good price and I like to be able to fiddle around with dates and different airports. The custom my trip option on ba.com is a great tool. Have paid anything from £1500 to £3000 depending on different durations/airports. Our preference is into Miami because it’s a direct flight from Heathrow.

Sorry for the ignorance but which is the better London airport to fly from if we’re travelling from the North East?

We’d stay over the night before travelling but thinking of the drive home after returning 😭

You can only fly from Newcastle to Heathrow then you have a choice.

Continue on from Heathrow to Miami and a possible connection from Miami to Orlando (if thats where you hope to head to). For this option you could do it all on the same day and perhaps stay overnight near Miami airport and pick up your car next morning for the approximately 4 hour drive to Orlando - or pick up the car and maybe drive for an hour or so and stay further north.

Or from Heathrow travel over to Gatwick stay at a hotel overnight and then direct from Gatwick to Orlando.

Bear in mind that the drive home can be a challenge if you don't get much sleep on the flight back and it is easier to have someone else to share the driving and that applies to either Gatwick or Heathrow to Newcastle.

You could also consider Newcastle-Dublin-Orlando which would give you pre-clearance in Dublin and arrive into Orlando as a domestic passenger but the return journey can again be a challenge depending on the timing of the Dublin-Newcastle flights. This would be flying on Aer Lingus but is bookable through BA.
