Warning flu

Over here at the moment and caught flu

Doctor told me to use hand wash on a regular basis
Seen a lot of people coughing into open space or into hands then touching handrails
Been in bed for 3 days and just been to doctors
Glad I have insurance
Don't know how much the doctor cost but tamiflu medice was $264 for 10 tablets

Tamiflu is the medication used for flu. You can't catch it you get it for a flu you have caught.

Sorry to hear you are poorly but just to clarify - tamiflu is the medicine used to treat/prevent normal flu.

Avian flu is crazy rare in humans and tamiflu is not one of the drugs used to treat it.

Please think about editing the title of your list so as to not unnecessarily scare anyone

You've got the bog standard normal flu. There's no avian flu in Florida. Tamiflu is a medicine to treat flu.

I don't normally get ill much over the course of the year (touch wood). But quite often I get flu or a cold in Florida I just put it down to change of climate and jet lag etc.

I hope you are soon back up and running and continue to enjoy your holiday soon Mike

Yes, as others said Tamiflu is just standard medicine for flu. It isn't generally prescribed in the UK as it's expensive and only really shortens the symptoms of flu by a few days, so not cost effective for the NHS. Also watch out for side effects, it can cause nausea and headaches in some people.

I always have a flu injection here in the uk so its worth people considering getting one in the winter months.

Vicks first defense used for the plane can also help. The main thing is never put your hand to your month or eat anything without using hand gel. I admit to being a tad OCD but amount of people who dont wash their hand after going to the toilet is unreal at work ( meant to be a professional) environment.

You wash your hands then then exit the toilets, using the handle they have just contaminated! Then you use the computer as you eat a bag of crisps while using the phone and keyboard that **** hands have just used, or sneezed its all rather troubling .

Nothing can be 100% avoided but a bit of OCD never hurt anyone!

Both my Dds were given tamiflu as a prevention of getting swine flu in 2009. I believe swine flu and seasonal (normal) flu are different in many ways.

I'm presuming they are giving it for 'normal' flu these days then?

I remember it was a fairly new medication back in 2009 when the media scared everyone into thinking we were all going to die from swine flu! I'm really annoyed that I had to give my then 4 & 6 year olds it, especially as It didn't amount to much similar to bird and Ebola)

Influenza is serious in any form but I don't like the way the media scare people with these types of things.
