The Will He, Won't He ,Trip
We got married in Florida in September and the original plan was to return for our anniversary however our good friends in Vero Beach will be away cruising in Alaska and although it was a great deal OH isn't quite ready for that much adventure yet (Florida was his first long haul trip he'd never ventured that far til last year so I'm easing him into it gently)
He's very used to me flitting off to the US however. I knew him for years before we got together and he hasn't a problem with it. He loved Florida but the heat and crowds meant he didn't get the Disney bug ... yet. He's a work in progress ! So I suggested we go in April after Easter... he ummed and Ahhed and said "Don't book it yet... not sure if I'll do the kitchen instead and you can still go and stay with our friends" So he currently thinks I'm holding off booking ... At £279 return Gatwick MCO and back from MIA with Norweigan I just couldn't do it ... and we are booked ! My current plan is to quietly get everything booked and paid for (no credit cards as he'd see them) and then let him decide if he's coming or not ! Somehow I don't think he'll be doing the kitchen ! (Only cosmetic not a full refit) So as he's never done IDrive I'm thinking 5 nights possibly at the Enclave before we head south . It's a relaxing trip the only certainty is KSC but I'm thinking of slipping in BG and Aquatica to give him another perspective of theme parks (he loved AK and TL ) Not even sure we'd need a car for I Drive though definitely would for Vero. So the budget so far is Flights £556 (hand baggage fare which is fine ) Enclave 5nights TBA but under £400 Carhire need to decide if Lyft makes more sense for the first few days . Obviously will need it for BG, KSC and Vero Beach. Food we tend to eat a big breakfast and nothing til evening in the heat so lots of scope on I Drive (I'd happily eat at Denny's every breakfast) especially with coupons. Vero we won't be allowed to spend much we have to fight with our friends to pick up the dinner bill as it is ! Naturally the budget includes a couple of decent bottles of duty free for them. So not so much a pre trippie as a cunning plan at the moment ! Edited at 01:36 PM. |

Not a good start to your marriage. If I was your husband I wouldn't be happy with you for booking, particularly considering the sums of money involved. Marriage should be an equal partnership and by doing that you're basically pushing him into going whether he wants to or not. Either that or you'll be wasting a lot of money if he decides not to go.

My DH wouldn’t be happy at all if he’d said don’t book it and I went ahead and did it, he’d have no problem with me going away on my own but wouldn’t be happy me booking for him to come if he’d said not to.

I hope this works out in the end! Think DH would throw his toys out the pram if I’d booked for him after he’d said not to 😂

Bless you but I'm guessing you missed the part where I said he's suggested I go anyway so worst scenario is I've lost an airfare , me, not him. I'm not financially dependant on him . He certainly doesn't want a subservient wife who kowtows to him . We may be old but we're not one of those couples who are joined at the hip and can't do anything without permission.
Guess some have got the January grumps as well as a dose of the judgementals (or maybe wish someone would present them with a paid for trip ) very surprised anyone considers under £2K for two for two weeks in Florida expensive. If I surprised him with a weekend in London with a decent dinner and a show it'd not be much different costwise staying Langhams , guess some people don't like to treat their spouses though. Anyway if a bit of lightheartness has offended some I do apologise but please don't worry yourselves about our marriage. We've been together a long time and are very happy . I hope you can say the same (if that doesn't sound as impertinent or judgemental as your comments did !) |

£276 Andy ... although Norweigan will do name changes very cheaply so I may treat my stepdaughter if her Dad declines (and he didn't say not to he said wait ... he does this every time and then when flights go up says ... shall we book. Drives me nuts ! )
And our marriage is off to a wonderful start thanks ! |

Well, I think it's lovely! You both have your own money, so no need for joint financial decisions, and if he decides to go with you, that's great, but if not you're equally happy and have a back up plan. I also trust that you know your husband and financial situation and wouldn't do anything to cause upset or hardship. Some people can be very judgemental about other people's relationships and decisions just because they aren't the same as their own! I hope it all works out for you and look forward to reading the rest of your trippie

Good for you ! He doesn't know what he's missing !
Mine is quite used to me doing trips with friends or even solo as we knew each other before we got together. He was worried when we first got together that I might feel I shouldn't still do it so we discussed it really early on. He's quite enlightened for a fifty something |
