Where do you stay and eatbif you don't do Disney

I think that staying onsite DDP or not is looking stupidly expensive, despite having five free nights at WDW
I'm seriously thinking of ditching Disney (we've Dr one WDW 13 times and I wasn’t particularly impressed last time I went hence the free nights , but with all the extra paid for events blah blah blah ) for a villa and only doing Universal and seaWorld.

Trying to keep it a low budget as possible without too many compromises. Plus , hopefully next year I'll be one year post chemotherapy so thinking a slightly slower pace may suit better.

All ideas on Orlando locations with decent food outlets..not universal drive, went there once , never again !
Thank you

we usually rent a villa which is cheaper near championsgate but you will need a car , there is a publix , a few places to eat too also mcdonalds subway , papa johns and chinese and pharmacy so plenty for all your everyday needs , people also stay in hotel on international dr but its down to preference

We've stayed in villas for the last 15 trips or so and usually stay south of the 192, latterly in the Championsgate area. Having a car we are not limited to where we eat and have traveled up to both Winter Garden and Winter Park or south to Haines City. Most of the time we eat along the 192.

There are no villas near Idrive / Universal anyway as that area isn't zoned for rentals. If we have a villa we like the Formosa Gardens area.

We've done 2 trips onsite with DDP for 5 nights, and 1 trip onsite for 5 nights without DDP. Last year (without DDP) We had a few dinners onsite using our landrys card, plus drove offsite a few times, and went to Disney Springs. When we move to the villa, as we tend to stay in Davenport, we eat down the 192, at Championsgate, Berry Town Centre, Lake Buena Vista and also Publix fried chicken always goes down a treat with a nice big salad around the pool deck!

I see that The Cheesecake Factory now has a second restaurant next to the Outlets on Vineland Avenue in that area what has been redeveloped. Seems like a few decent places have opened up in that area now.

Also seem to be a lot of options now around the Margaritaville Resort on 192 near Orange Lake.

We used to stay on idrive in hotels and thought it was brilliant (2000-2008) then we went in a villa 2019 near Berry centre and used the 192. If/when we go again I would go in a villa near Berry centre 192 use that again absolutely 100% for us

we stay at WDW normally but never have the free dining plan, we always eat out breakfast and dinner. There are loads of lovely places to eat
