Mini Bahamas Cruise
Has anyone been on a mini Bahamas Cruise? I have seen a one day cruise and a 2 day cruise advertised which I think are very good value but as with all things I like to go on the recommendations of others.

Dee,
Back in 1990 I did a day cruise when in staying in Miami to Bimini one of the smaller islands. It was a long day but food was good and the island was great and the beach was perfect within walking distance of the port. If you can fit a day or two cruise in then I would recommend it but I would personally choose one of the smaller islands as Nassau is quite commercialised and the port is some distance from the town or beach from what I remember being told when we booked Bimini. Dee,
We did a 4 day cruise some time ago from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas with Carnival. Excellent trip - good ship, good food, and a couple of stops. The ship docked in Grand Bahama, and the dock is literally right by the town's main square. Spent some time sightseeing on a tour, and then walked round the town. We did this short one to see if we liked cruising - we do, and have since done 2 other cruises, 1 through Alaska, and the other round the Caribbean. Pete |

Sorry, have to be honest. We did a mini Bahamas Cruise about ten years ago and hated every minute of it. The ship was great - very luxurious - but we sailed through a huge storm on the way and virtually everyone lost the wonderful breakfast which they had so enjoyed an hour before.
When we got to the Bahamas we really hated it. We were hassled every minute by locals. We had taxis cruising along the kerb alongside us trying to persuade us to get in, we were badgered by people trying to sell us things, we were offered drugs and I had a handful of my hair grabbed by a woman wanting to plait it for me for a fee. A few years previously we had toured Morocco so we were used to being hassled by people trying to sell things as soon as we left the hotel but this was different. Unlike when we were in Morocco we actually felt very threatened in the Bahamas. Many of the women who were selling things seemed to have male companions and when you refused to purchase from them then the men stepped in to ask why and what was wrong with their goods. I'm sure many other people have been and enjoyed it but personally I couldn't wait to get back to Florida and wild horses wouldn't drag me back to the Bahamas again! Bev C |
