Best Beach ?

We plan to do a day or two at the beach during our visit in October and have heard lots about St.Petes, Clearwater etc. etc. Can anyone offer any thoughts on which beach might be the best for two young boys, (8 & 7), and mum and dad of course, with regards to resturants/cafes, ease of travel from Orlando, boat trips and general kids entertainment. I be interested to hear of your experiences. Cheers.

We love the Gulf Coast and St. Pete`s is one of our favourites. The sea is very clear and warm with little fish swimming in the shallows. The sand is so pale it looks "white" and there are some very pretty shells to be found. We always go to the pier as well as it has some really nice shops etc. on there and a lovely aquarium. Our sons are now 13 and 12 and they love St. Pete`s beach, the pier etc. as much as hubby and I. Our eldest, my hubby and hubby`s dad love fishing and when we went there this May, they hired rods and bought some bait (shrimps I think! ) and fished for about an hour. Hubby caught a massive stingray and it took him and a bystander to reel it in. Everyone was around them clapping and cheering. Once a photo had be taken, the ray was put back into the sea. We also love the pelicans there and they look so funny sitting on the wooden posts. Straight out of a scene from Miami Vice, but unfortunately, no sign of Don Johnson! ;-) Enjoy yourselves when you go to magical Florida.
Fiona.
