Travel Time NE to Manchester Airport

Anyone recently travelled from NE Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle to Manchester Airport & how long did it take. We have made the journey a number of times but were wondering what effect the road works were having on the journey time. We are travelling next Sunday & need to be at the airport about 8 a.m.
THanks

I'd definitely come the night before. The motorway in is unpredictable at the best of times it only takes an accident to stop dead. I only live an hour away and always stay the night before at the Radisson so I know I'm where I need to be. There are lots of nearby hotels that are cheaper as well.

We are in Sale which is 15 mins from the airport, and we regularly travel to Newcastle, as both our kids are at uni there. On Friday, my husband drove up to collect them for the summer and it took around 3 hours for each journey. Our daughters friends drove down this morning and said it took them 3 hours too!

The only time it took longer was when we decided to leave Newcastle at 11pm at night and we missed the diversion on the A1m and that journey took a lot longer!

We live 50 miles down from you and if I had to be there at 8 (having dropped off the car) I would be getting on the A1 at 5 to 5.30, but I am a pretty much, get there early just in case person. We drove back from the Eithad Stadium last Saturday evening but all roads were empty and did it in 90 minutes, however, I would never take the chance of missing my flight so prefer to get there, grab breakfast and a glass of fizz. Leaving from where you live I would be in the car heading down early at 4, REMEMBER TO CHECK FOR A1 CLOSURES AT BARTON TO LEEMING BAR AS THE ROAD WILL NOT OPEN AGAIN UNTIL 0800 HRS ON THE SUNDAY MORNING. You may be better heading down the A19 and picking up the A1 at Dishforth. Hope that helps.
