I started a new job in Dec, got paid in Jan and my tax code was wrong. Clearly told Payroll I had no p45 as hadn't worked since May 2018 and went on emergency tax. I work part time in a school so will never earn above the personal allowance, ended up paying £200 in tax. I logged on to my government gateway account, filled out a form on line and they sorted out my tax code with in 3 days. The Gov gateway shows my wages, what I have earned each month, tax etc It is quite handy to have access to it. I will get a refund of the tax I paid. I found this easier than ringing and being on hold for ages.

It’s a separate line I believe - op it might depend when your payroll run was done - it can be mid month (our us 10th) - you will get it back x

Is your code on this payslip 1250L wk 1 mth 1 by any chance?

You should have had P45's from the other jobs that's why the code was probably issued.

My husband concerned today because he started new job last December and handed P45 late last month and his wages same from old job and he paid out 308 pounds to tax

He cannot phone to tax office as he is deaf and I told him to speak his staff tomorrow.

I cannot find online chat so I apply Gov. Getaway and hopeful I get help.

Thank you for explained. I told my husband to logged in Government Gateway account and he can see that it was old job so he filled out and I hope he get sort it out asap.
